The Lauderdale County Extension Office is hosting their annual Successful Aging Initiative (SAI) on Friday, September 29th at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum.
The event will take place from 8am to 2pm and will educate local seniors and veterans on the changing laws and healthcare policies that may affect them now and in the future.
Regional Extension Agent Darlene Minniefield says that her office expects 400 to 700 participants in this year’s conference, the sixth year it has been held. Minniefield says this year’s event will honor local veterans and seniors aged 80 and up.
All veterans and seniors who want to attend are asked to contact Darlene at 256-766-6223 in order to reserve their seat at the event. The deadline for registration will be Friday, September 22nd, one week prior to the conference.
The office says they are hoping to receive support from local businesses to help them provide this service to our community. Lauderdale Extension provides a hot meal for the seniors attending the conference, and also puts together a care package for them. Extension officials say that anything from food to gift cards to door prize donations will be greatly appreciated.
